Martino Celeghini, chief executive officer of CESCO Group, shared insights on the growing role of steel structures in mill and process buildings during the International Association of Operative Millers’ Mideast & African region conference on Nov. 13.

In his speech, titled “Steel Structures for Mill and Process Buildings,” Celeghini discussed how steel is emerging as a preferred material in the agriculture and food sectors, particularly for its benefits in terms of speed, durability, and cost-efficiency compared to traditional concrete structures.

“Steel structures offer exceptional flexibility, durability, and adaptability, which are essential for the dynamic needs of milling and processing facilities,” he said. “From structural resilience and seismic load resistance to efficient construction timelines, steel provides distinct advantages.”

During his presentation, Celeghini covered the technical and economic aspects that make steel an ideal choice for mill buildings, including design flexibility, maintenance efficiency, and improved seismic load resistance. He highlighted CESCO’s proprietary innovations, such as their use of high-yield structural steels, advanced corrosion protection, and specialized designs for hygiene and ease of maintenance, which are critical in food processing environments.

CESCO’s square and round silos, designed to optimize storage space, facilitate easy maintenance, and minimize dust and contaminant buildup, were a focal point of Celeghini’s address. Additionally, he showcased recent project references, including the ongoing steel mill building erection in Cameroon, underlining CESCO’s global impact in the field.

CESCO is a global leader in the design, manufacturing, and installation of solutions for grain handling, storage, and processing.
