The dynamism of Bangladesh's economy is a wonderful achievement

Bangladesh is currently a country of emerging economic power. Beyond the borders of South Asia in the dynamics of the economy, it is now known all over the world. Bangladesh recently announced a 200 million USD aid loan to Sri Lanka following an application. This is a 'turning point' for Bangladesh on its way from being a poor aid seeker to a regionally influential country.

At the time of gaining independence from Pakistan in 1971, Bangladesh was one of the poorest countries in the world, but now Bangladesh is a prosperous country of 180 million people. Those who have a huge export dependent economy. Its growth rate has been 6 percent for an era. Although the growth rate fell to 5.2 percent in 2020 due to COVID-19, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) says: In 2021, the growth rate of Bangladesh will be 6.8 percent and in 2022 it will be 7.2 percent.

Bangladesh's per capita income is 2,227 USD, which is much higher than neighboring India (1947) and Pakistan (1,543). Meanwhile, Bangladesh is ahead of other countries in South Asia, including India, in terms of important social security indicators such as health, life expectancy, birth rate and women's empowerment.

While the global COVID-19 epidemic has had a negative impact on the economies of many countries, including industrialized countries, the development of economic development is truly a matter of celebration for Bangladesh.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina's three-term government and the people's visionary plan, steps and hard work to implement it has brought such success for Bangladesh.

Henry Kissinger, the then US Minister of Foreign Affairs, visited Dhaka in 1974. He then called Bangladesh a 'bottomless basket'. And Ambassador U. Alex Johnson called the newly independent Bangladesh an 'international bag'. But Bangabandhu was able to surpass such predictions through his foresight and strong leadership.

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, daughter of Bangabandhu, said in an article, "Apart from being self-sufficient, we are now the fourth largest rice producer in the world, second in jute production, fourth in mango, fifth in vegetable production and fourth in inland fish production."

Bangladesh was recognized as a low-middle income country in 2015. In addition, the conditions set by the United Nations to be recognized as a developing country by 2024 are fulfilled in 2018. These are truly wonderful achievements of Bangladesh. The foresight, planning and leadership of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina acted as the driving force behind this progress. At the same time, millions of farmers, factory workers, garment workers and people from various walks of life have worked hard to keep the wheel of the country's economy moving. -Editor
