Story: If you want to build a feed mill, here's what you need to know
The demand for feed is increasing day by day due to increasing
production of livestock, fish and chicken. Because of which the initiative to
make feedmeal also increased. There are always a few things to emphasize when
starting a new feedmill.
Here are some basics for your consideration. But if the
investment is insufficient then it is better not to start such a project. If
you start a project and stop midway, it's all a loss. So before you do
anything, get the right idea about it.
Amount of land required: The amount of land required for a feed
mill cannot be specified. Because the amount of land depends on various factors
including the amount of feed, type of feed, amount of stored food, office,
accommodation, transport system, various infrastructure, future expansion
policy. It is good to calculate the amount of land required for these things.
Generally 2 to 5 acres of land is ideal for a feedmill. If there is a car
parking or truck parking area next to the project, less land will be used. If
the amount of land is large and there is no damage, then a beautiful
environment can be created by feeding.
Types of feed: a) Course feed: Layer feed, kettle feed, etc b)
Pellet Feed: Poultry Feed, Sinking Fish Feed, Shrimp Feed, Kettle Supplement
Feed, etc. c) Extruded feed: Floating fish feed, pet food, shrimp feed, etc. d)
TMR (Total Mixed Ration).
You have to choose which type of feed to create from different
types of feed. You can simultaneously adopt the technology of making fish
sinking and floating feed or poultry pellet feed and course feed. You can even
take poultry and fish feed manufacturing technology together, but there is a
possibility of raw materials coming into contact with each other. It has been
found that many start this way first and when a good market for feed is
established they develop each into a separate line.
Feedmill Productivity: This must also be in your plan. You need
to decide on the productivity of the feed mill by checking the feed market and
depending on the nature of the feed. We need to observe the amount of feed
demand in the last 15-20 years in our country and in your area and think about
how much feed demand will increase in the future. Or it may not be possible to
expand the project as feed demand increases in the future.
Feedmill productivity is calculated in hours. You can start
feedmills with 3-4 MT/hr, 5-7 MT/hr, 10-12 MT/hr, 20-22 MT/hr, 30-32 MT/hr or
more.
Investment: The amount of investment will depend on your
decisions regarding the amount of land, type of feed mill, construction of
facilities, machinery, management.
Risk Potential: If feed quality is good, strong market can be
created, good relationship with farmers and dealers and mutual cooperation is
there then the investment will be profitable and capital will be raised
quickly. And if not, the feed business cannot progress much.
Take everything into consideration and research the market and
take the right decision considering the next 15-20 years. Also proceed by consulting
