Drying paddy in the traditional way is a lot of time and cost effective. In addition to drying paddy during natural disasters, many suffer. In this case it is possible to dry paddy up to 500 kg in just three to four hours. It will cost only BDTk 28 to dry 40 kg of paddy using electricity and the cost of using fuel oil will cost 33 taka. The workshop organized by Bangladesh Agricultural University, said the researcher Md. Manjurul Alam. He is a professor in the Department of Agricultural Power and Machinery of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology of the University. The workshop on 'Sustainable Agriculture Mechanization and Postharvest Practices in Bangladesh' was held on few days ago at Syed Nazrul Islam Conference hall of the university. While presenting the keynote paper at the workshop, researcher Manjurul Alam said that a machine called BAU-STR will dry out large amounts of paddy in a short time. The machine has been experimentally used in various parts of the country. It also got about 90 percent of the seedling capacity. Now this technology needs to be expanded. This will greatly reduce the cost of production of rice. Dean of the Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Technology Prof. Md. Nurul Haque presided over the workshop as the chief guest at the University Emeritus Professor M A Sattar Mandal & as the main sponsor Vice-Chancellor Prof. Lutful Hassan were present. Participated in the scientific session of the workshop, Prof. of Agriculture and Machinery Department of the university, Abdus Sattar and Md. Abdul Awal, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Science and Technology University’s Prof. BK Bala, Chief Engineer of Bangladesh Agricultural Development Corporation, Lutfur Rahman. Chief guest Sattar Mandal said that the quality of the equipment brought from abroad was not checked before. Now these matters are being monitored. Many good, durable and affordable machines are being developed in the country. While the dependence of the import is reduced, the technology is not expanding. The government has to come forward to deliver the technologies to the farmer's doorstep. Only then can mechanization be able to increase agricultural production. Source: Online
