At this time, the Bangladesh Wholesale Hot Spices Traders Association has announced a 10 to 25 percent reduction in the price of hot spices. The Ministry of Commerce said in a statement on Wednesday (May 13, 2020). After a meeting with Additional Secretary of the Ministry of Commerce Obaidul Azam at the Secretariat, the association announced a reduction in the price of spices. The meeting reviewed the international market for hot spices and import prices in Bangladesh, the statement said. With the holy Eid-ul-Fitr looming, they agreed to keep the price of hot spices stable like various daily necessities. After the meeting, the Garammasala Business Association also held separate meetings with Commerce Minister Tipu Munshi and Commerce Secretary Mohammad Zafar Uddin. After both the meetings, the Bangladesh Wholesale Hot Spices Traders Association announced the price list of hot spices. They said that from now on, cumin (India) will cost Tk. 300 to Tk. 340 per kg in the retail market. Cinnamon (China) 310 to 330 Tk. per kg, Cinnamon (Vietnam) 350 to 380 Tk. per kg. Clove 680 to 720 Tk. per kg. Cardamom 2800 to 3200 Tk. per kg. Black pepper (white) will be sold at 550 to 580 Tk. and black pepper (black) at 360 to 380 Tk. This price is 10 to 25 percent less than the current market price. Commerce Ministry officials said the consumer department would take action against anyone selling hot spices at a higher price than this.
