ISU Health Sciences Faculty Nutrition and Dietetics Department academic staff member Prof. Dr. Hamit Köksel has been elected as the Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the International Grain Science and Technology Association.
Istinye University (ISU), Faculty of Health Sciences, Department of Nutrition and Dietetics, Prof. Dr. Hamit Köksel has been elected as the chairman of the scientific committee named “ICC Academy” of the International Association of Grain Science and Technology, whose short name is ICC.
Köksel, who served as the President Elect in the ICC in 2015-16 and as President in 2017-18; Since 2019, he has been actively the Chairman of the Board of the association.
He was awarded the "Friedrich Schweitzer" medal in 2020 for his scientific achievements and contributions to the ICC. Dr. It was stated that Hamit Köksel led Turkey, which became a member of the union in 1960, to host an ICC conference for the first time in 2008. It was emphasized that Köksel, who also chaired the congress organized by the ICC every four years and held in Istanbul in 2016, was awarded the ICC Herald Perten Foundation Science Award the same year. The ICC also the representative of Turkey, the Republic of Turkey for the moment with the Soil Products Office representatives as national delegates, from Istinye University professor Dr. Hamit Köksel has taken over.

Referring to the importance of being a member of the Union for Turkey, Köksel; “ICC (International Association for Cereal Science and Technology), founded in 1955 and headquartered in Vienna, is an international organization operating in the field of cereal science and technology. The association, which does not have a political purpose and has about 50 members from five continents, has active representatives in about 100 countries. Member countries and representatives prepare standard methods in the field of cereal science and technology, test their usability and Publish them. These methods are effective for use as related organizations in Turkey, will contribute greatly to our foreign trade. For this reason, I have worked hard to ensure our country's full membership in the union, and by 2002 we have become an active country in the union. ''
Taking an active role in ICC is important for Turkey
A newly developed wheat variety was named as "Hamitbey" by the researchers of the Field Crops Central Research Institute in 2018. Dr. Hamid Köksel, finished by saying: "Turkey is the world's first exports in the last 10 years, while exports of pasta has long been the second position. These products are exported to more than 100 countries. In addition, considering the importance of cereal products in our country's nutrition, the importance of taking an active role in ICC will be better understood. It is also necessary to increase the cooperation between the private sector, public and universities in order for ICC membership and this organization to be more beneficial to the food industry. In this direction, I give detailed information about the subject in conferences I attend as a speaker in many countries and draw attention to the importance of reinforcing international cooperation. "
Prof. Dr. Hamit Köksel most recently participated in International Grain Science conferences in Wuhan, Xi An and Tianjin cities in China and Russia (Moscow) in 2019, and delivered speeches on behalf of Istinye University and ICC.
