Bangladesh Agricultural University (BAU) crop science department professor Dr. Md. Solayman Ali Fakir. The products that have been successfully developed from the Arhar plant are Arhar-roti of dry seeds, Arhar-puri, Arhar-singara with boiled raw seed paste and Arhar-halwa and Arhar-kabab, fried Arhar seeds and raw seed vegetables.
The researcher gave this information in a press conference organized yesterday in the conference room of the crop and plant science department of the university. During the press conference, the head professor of the crop and plant science department was present. Md. Alamgir Hossain and Professor Dr. Md. Nesar Uddin.
The main researcher Dr. Solayman Ali Fakir said that Arhar-Ruti
can play an effective role as an alternative food to rice to reduce the
pressure on rice, the staple food in the country. Bread is made by mixing this
dal paste with the flour. Aura is very effective in weight loss as it is lower in
carbohydrates than rice. He thinks that this tree will play a role in meeting
the demand for pulses at a very low cost. The plant is drought tolerant and fast
growing in fallow land and can be grown at a low cost and with low water use. It
can be used as an alternative pulse to beans in Arhar curry.
He said, like other pulses, there is about 21 percent
non-nutritional and nutritional content in Arhar seeds. Low in fat, and high in
fiber and minerals, this dal is a healthy food. Arhar seeds reduce the risk of
heart disease as they are low in cholesterol and high in potassium and fiber.
Green leaf juice is effective in curing jaundice. Arhar dal helps to relieve
anemia. Also, Arhar dal works as an energy booster in the body due to the
presence of vitamin B, riboflavin and niacin for weight loss.
It is possible to produce 200 to 500 grams of dry pulses and
550 to 900 grams of vegetable seeds per plant depending on the Arhar variety.
Also, the yield of 400 to 800 kg of pulses per hectare is cultivated on land.
