File Photo[/caption] GFMM desk: National Grain and Feed Association President Randy Gordon said while they’re pleased the STB has made a good start on policies, wants to see more done to improve those. The Surface Transportation Board has come out with some general policy principles governing demurrage charges imposed by railroads. Those are extra charges imposed by railroads beyond their normal freight charges. Mr. Gordon said one of the firm policies set by the STB is requiring the railroads to identify which specific rail cars where demurrage is being assessed. He said NGFA would have liked the STB to require railroads to amend their current tariffs in order to make sure they’re providing the information on which rail cars are being assessed. He also said the STB addressed the so called “free time issue”. Gordon said eagerly, his group wants to continue working with the STB to make more improvements to those demurrage policy priorities.
