Chick syndicate is making an extra profit of Tk 6.5 Crore per day: Complaints of Poultry Association

Bangladesh Poultry Association (BPA) has alleged that a syndicate is making an extra profit of Tk 6.5 crore per day by selling chicks at higher prices.

In a press conference at Dhaka Reporters Unity (DRU) in the capital on Tuesday (September 26, 2023), the organization made this complaint saying that the government has allowed the import of eggs to reduce the instability in the egg market. Farmers will be affected. Not only that, if the farmers reduce the production, the price of a piece of egg may go down to Tk 20. But it will be possible to break this syndicate if poultry feed and chicks are imported. Chicken and eggs will be available at low prices.

 Ilyas Khandkar, general secretary of the organization, said in a press conference that three weeks ago, a broiler chicken was sold for Tk 35. In a span of three weeks, the price of a chick has increased to Tk 60. How did it happen? The cost of production of chick has not increased. Even if it has increased, it has increased by Tk 1 to 2. Another layer Chick is selling for Tk 75. Gold and color bird cost of production of one chick is Tk 22, farmers buy it for Tk 58.
