The commitment is based on the previously announced goal of reducing perfect emissions by 10%. These goals were approved through a collaboration between the Science-based Target Initiative, the environmental non-profit CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resource Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund of Nature (WWF). “As a large and influential company in the agriculture sector, Cargill’s actions will positively impact the food industry and help companies further downstream reduce their own emissions,” said Cynthia Cummis, director of private sector climate mitigation at WRI. In June, Cargill announced Beef-Up Sustainable Initiative to reduce the intensity of greenhouse gas by 30% across the North American beef supply chain. The project includes an expanded partnership with environmental organization The Nature Conservancy, as well as the Fertility Lab Institute's Fertilizer Innovation Challenge, which combines start-ups and other organizations to derive value from fertilizer-based nutrition, fiber and energy. The company also is part of the Global Maritime Forum’s De-carbonization Task Force, which aims to transition the global shipping industry to carbon-neutral by 2050. Other environmental initiatives include protecting forests and advancing soil health. Cargill chairman and chief executive officer, David W. MacLennan says, "Unless courageous and decisive action is taken by everyone involved in food production, climate change will destabilize the food system." How do we mitigate climate change, regenerate our land and Improve water use and make the world more sustainable. " Source: Online/SZK
