GFMM desk: The economic crisis caused by the deadly Corona epidemic could lead to another 39 crore people living in extreme poverty in the world. And the number of the world’s poorest people will exceed 100 crore, according to a new study.
The study, published by the United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research, looked at various conditions of the World Bank’s poverty line. The study identified those earning between USD 1.90 and 5.50 a day as extremely poor.
If the situation is so bad in this corona epidemic, it has been seen that the per capita income has been reduced by 20 percent and 112 crore people in the world may face extreme poverty. By adopting the same approach, it has been found that if per capita income decreases, about 370 crore people in the world will live below the poverty line due to the economic crisis.
Andy Samner, one of the members of the research team, said that if governments do not act many more and quickly to address the daily income deficit of the poor, the world’s extreme poverty could take a terrible turn.
